The gymnasium was hardly "packed" as far as the audience was concerned, but no less than eight, seven-man (and woman), teams competed for the first Blinn College intramural "championship".
The tournament was relatively short and despite one of my co-writer's complaints that she didn't get to see any blood, the tournament was still exciting. The small crowed of non-participants and referees cheered as loudly as a crowed three times their size. The tournament was "single elimination" meaning that after only one loss a team was removed from the tournament.
While several teams played multiple games before losing, several teams walked away defeated after only one match. John Turner, freshman and disappointed player said "I had really hoped we'd have done better. I knew we weren't going to win, but we didn't even put up a fight!"
Although the tournament ended quickly and the event was small considering the size of the Brenham campus, many players are already asking for another tournament.
Between the teams with new found rivalries and the students who missed out on the tournament hoping to create teams next time, I think the Brenham campus can expect to see many more dodge ball tournaments in the future.
