Bigger, Better Blinn
Blinn College continues to grow

As school maintenance trims trees and washes buildings, one can’t help but think about the improvements that Blinn College continually undergoes. Blinn is always changing and growing. Most students, because they only spend a few years here, don’t realize how drastically the college has changed over the years.
Blinn hasn’t always been the comfortable junior college that we are familiar with. Blinn was originally founded to train men for the ministry in the late 1800’s and was originally named the “Mission Institute”. The college was renamed Blinn after the Reverend Christian Blinn of New York, whose generous donations made the school possible. As time progressed Blinn began offering non-religious educational courses for both men and women to meet the needs of Washington county locals. In the year 1927 Blinn became a full junior college and in 1937 Blinn became the first county owned junior college district in Texas.
But of course the story of Blinn college doesn’t stop there. Blinn continues to grow in campus size and continues to see more and more students every year. This year alone Blinn will gain two new additions, a brand new AG building and dorm. With the addition of the new dormitory, all dorms will become coeducational, just as Blinn was once made the shift from an exclusively male institution to a coeducational one.
As the years go by, Blinn will continue to grow and change and maybe someday this seminary turned junior college will be a junior college turned into a nationally respected university. No matter what the future holds, I think we can expect a bigger better Blinn in the future.
