Tim Halperin

If you heard him sing Thursday morning on Candy 95, you may had been struck by his talent and waited patiently until Frito and Alli said his name. If you did, like I did, you found out that his name is Tim Halperin and that he was playing that night at Mugwalls.

You could say it was a perfect night for an outdoor concert. Christmas lights and living room lamps surrounded their instruments and covered the trees. After Jonathan Combs and David Dunn took the stage, Tim Halperin came on. His set list consisted of songs from his CD “Make or Break”, a cover of John Mayer’s “Daughters” song, and even a song about Wendy’s hamburgers. His single is called “She Runs” but his song “Let it Go” has been featured on an episode of “The Real World: New Orleans”.

Towards the end of the show, Tim was joined by David Dunn to help him perform the last few songs. They started with an acoustic cover of Justin Timberlake’s “What Goes Around Comes Around”, with David playing the guitar and Tim playing the keyboards. They ended their collaboration with David’s song "Not Soon".

Tim grew up in Omaha, Nebraska learning to play piano since he was six years old. He had his share of being in bands but in college he decided he’d enter the singer/songwriter world. I caught up with him after his performance that night to ask him some questions.

On how he gets his inspirations about what he writes about, Tim said, “Usually from personal experience, if not, it’s from people close to me and things they’ve been through”. He also mentioned that Chris Martin, the lead singer from Coldplay, was the musician he looked up to the most, and that College Station was his favorite place to perform at.
