Arabian Nights
"Aladdin" opens this month
The Blinn College Theatre Arts program continues its “year of monsters, magic, mayhem and mothers” this month with the magical children’s classic Aladdin, or The Wonderful Scamp. Performances of this timeless play run Nov. 10-14 in the Dr. W.W. O’Donnell Performing Arts Center Auditorium on Blinn’s Brenham campus.
Aladdin tells the tale of a street urchin by the same name who happens to be the only person who can enter the Cave of Wonders and retrieve a magical lamp for the Sultan’s Head Advisor. The classic, by Henry Byron, gets exciting when Aladdin becomes trapped in the cave and accidentally stumbles across the lamp’s magical resident — a genie willing to grant him three wishes. This family show promises to be a magical experience for all.
Performances are Nov. 10-13 at 7 p.m. and Nov. 14 at 2 p.m. Special Elementary School Preview Performances are Nov. 10-12 at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. Tickets are $5 at the Student Center ticket office. Blinn students receive two free tickets with their Blinn ID.
In the spring, Blinn theatre students will present Blithe Spirit, a comedic ghost story by Noel Coward. Set for Feb. 24-27, the show will include special Junior High/High School Preview Performances. Blithe Spirit will be Blinn’s entry in the 2011 Texas Community College Speech and Theatre Association Play Festival.
