Blinn College, Igloo receive workforce training grant
BRENHAM – The Texas Workforce Commission presented Blinn College and Igloo Products Corporation with a $462,602 Skills Development Fund grant during ceremonies held today in the college’s board meeting room on the Brenham campus.
Texas Workforce Commissioner Representing the Public Andres Alcantar presented the check to Blinn President/CEO Dr. Daniel J. Holt and Igloo Director of Human Resources Alexander Hodges for the grant that will fund training for 625 employees in areas such as management, lean manufacturing, machine operation and maintenance, forklift operations, technician apprenticeship training, power electronics, computers, ESL, and conversational Spanish. Of the total employees, 600 will be upgraded jobs and 25 will be newly created positions. The average cost of training per trainee is $740.16, and the total contact hours, or number of hours students receive toward their education, equal 41,792.

Alcantar represents the public on the three-member Texas Workforce Commission. The Skills Development Fund assists businesses by designing, financing, and implementing customized job training programs in partnership with public community and technical colleges for new or existing jobs in local businesses
