Blinn College officially unveils its new Mobile Go Center on Thursday, Sept. 30, during a campus ribbon-cutting in front of the Brenham Student Center at 10 a.m.The community, students, faculty and staff are invited to tour the new recruiting tool designed to bring college-related information, motivation and assistance directly to students and their families. Blinn officials and administrators will be on hand for the ceremony, where food and refreshments will be provided.

Thanks to the generosity of the Texas Pioneer Foundation, the Blinn College Foundation and the Blinn College Ex-Students Association, Blinn was able to equip the air-conditioned, 42-foot trailer with 14 laptops, internet access and a big screen TV. The high-tech tools will help Blinn reach students who may not have internet access at home and are unable to get to a campus to apply for college. Inside the climate-controlled center, students can escape the elements while completing admissions applications, printing off housing information and even registering for classes.

With the help of the Mobile Go Center, Blinn will also reach out to younger students at elementary and junior high schools using special software applications such as Career Cruising or Reality Check.

Mobile Go Centers are part of the College for Texans Campaign to support state Closing the Gaps efforts to draw an additional 630,000 Texans into colleges and universities by 2015.

The Mobile Go Center is partially booked through February 2011, with events scheduled in Waller, Hockley, Sealy, Brookshire, and elsewhere in Blinn’s service area. A schedule of events and booking information is available online.
