Blinn College’s new Tech Ed Center graduates 12 machinists
Leslie Ellis

Twelve Blinn students have successfully completed the first-ever machinist training program offered at the College’s new A.W. Hodde, Jr. Technical Education Center in Brenham. Area businesses were quick to offer jobs to the newly minted machinists, who specialize in creating custom parts and equipment for manufacturing.  Nine of the 12 inaugural class members have already been employed.

The students, from five Texas counties, completed the 280-hour, seven-week course in the new A.W. Hodde, Jr. Technical Education Center.  The nearly $2 million facility opened in February and was designed to house workforce education programs that support the educational and enrichment needs of businesses and employees in the Brenham area.  Each year, about 1,500 students will be trained at the 12,000-square-foot facility in areas of specialization that include manufacturing, electrical, construction crafts, mechanical, leadership and management and health.
