Five Buccaneers receive Academic All-American honors

           The NJCAA has announced that five Blinn College student-athletes have received Academic All-American honors.

Blinn volleyball All-American outside hitter, Cinthya Roberto (Brasilia, Brazil) received Distinguished Academic All-American honors with a 3.88 grade point average. Roberto was also named the Atkinson Cup winner at Blinn in May. The Atkinson Cup is awarded to a Blinn College athlete with the highest GPA. She will continue her studies and career at the University of Florida.

Buc baseball team members Chase Brown (Arlington), 3.62; Isaac Nuti (Brenham), 3.67; and Christian Woodridge (Clear Creek), 3.64 received Academic All-American honors announced yesterday by the NJCAA. The Buccaneers finished runners-up in the regional tournament.

Britni Wells (Alvin), a two-year starter in softball was named Academic All-American with a cumulative GPA of 3.68. Wells was a member of the Buccaneer softball team which qualified for the national tournament in 2009 and 2010.

To be eligible, student-athletes must have completed three full-time semesters or four full-time quarters of college work and have participated in at least one season at the varsity level. To receive Distinguished Academic All-American a student must have a 3.80 or better on a 4.00 scale. Academic All-American requirements are 3.60 to 3.79.

This year more than 1,300 NJCAA student-athletes met the requirements for the individual academic honors while over 340 teams qualified for academic team accolades.
