Buccaneers to open season with championship bowl opponent
The Blinn College Buccaneers will begin defense of their title against the team they beat last December for the national championship. Head football coach Brad Franchione announced that Blinn will open the 2010 season hosting Fort Scott (KS) Community College on Aug. 28. The game will be played at Cub Stadium in Brenham. The time has not been set.
The Bucs defeated the Greyhounds 31-26 in the Citizens State Bowl in Pittsburg, KS, to earn their second national championship in four years.
Opening the season against a top-ranked opponent has become a tradition under Franchione. In 2008, the Bucs beat the eventual national champion Butler County (KS) Community College. And in 2009, Butler fell again to Blinn in the first game of the year.
