The Blinn Buccaneers moved up six spots in the final NJCAA poll released today to No. 10, after a 31-27 victory over Arizona Western College in the 10th annual C.H.A.M.P.S. Heart of Texas Bowl in Copperas Cove, TX.
Blinn went into the contest on Saturday ranked No. 16 and held off the fourth-ranked Matadors 31-27 in a hard-fought game featuring 21 combined penalties. The Bucs were led by sophomore quarterback Justin Tuggle (Alpharetta, GA), who was named the game’s most valuable player after passing for 140 yards and running for another 78.
The 2010 Bucs finished the season 8-3, and their third top-ten finish in five years under head coach Brad Franchione. The 2009 Buccaneers, led by quarterback Cam Newton, finished the season ranked No. 1 after winning the program’s fourth national championship, second under Franchione.
